We can argue about what "woke" means in overall politics, but there certainly is a power block of Reddit mods who can fairly be described using that term. Many of them are the kind of people who are so deluded that they think Reddit is right-leaning and that anyone to the right of AOC is dangerously close to fascism.
The problem manifests itself not just when people try to post right-leaning arguments. One time I got banned from a Bernie Sanders subreddit for expressing mild criticisms of Bernie from a moderate viewpoint.
Actual right-wing viewpoints often get nuked from orbit. But political moderates are not safe either. On many subs any political view that deviates in any way from progressive orthodoxy runs a high chance of getting deleted.
It's a truly amazing market failure. Up here in New England, you can't get an electrician for love or money. And if you do, you are paying $75 an hour for the lowliest apprentice.
But you go on Reddit, and the poor schlubs in the rest of the country are making <$20 an hour to start. You can make more at McDonalds.
I talked to a friend of mine who runs a big corp electrician unit for a utility. He cannot hire anyone at the rates he wants to pay, and says he cannot pay them market because then he'd "have to reset the comp for his entire 100 man crew." The journeymen coming in are asking for more than supervisor pay (and they should be getting it!)
I predict we are in for more inflation as this works its way through the system.
I feel like the premium pricing for the plant based alternative is a major problem. Personally I think they've achieved "good enough" results, but I rarely eat them because of the cost difference at restaurants.
The story is flipped for home cooking, e.g., making mapo or meatballs at home. We actually prefer the plant based alternative there, and lately it's also been the economical choice.
