In the children sitcom 'No good Nick' a female chef ignores feedback from her employee by accusing him of 'mansplaining'. The daughter accuses the white dad of 'cultural approriation' when he suggests taco Tuesday for the restaurant. And that was only the first minutes of one episode.

And that’s more extreme on Netflix than other channels? White Lotus on HBO touched every woke topic in existence and was enjoyable. It’s the content that matters not how it leans.

Enjoyable is subjective. White Lotus was terrible in my opinion.

Not sure why you are arguing? People have stated that's the reason they have quit, and yet you are somehow suggesting that we are wrong? Or because another service does it?

Accept that some people are tired and bored of having unrealistic plots and characters that are only there to "tick boxes".

But sure, recasting the queen of England as a black woman is obviously fine.

Let's do a series on MLK and get a balding white guy to play him, or perhaps an Asian person?

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people has no strong position in the "culture war" and just watch whatever they enjoy. I'm sure some people will leave a service over "wokeness" but I would be surprised if that number was significant.

As for White Lotus: you might not enjoy it, but are you representative? Me and my wife enjoyed it very much. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 88% and IMDB at 7.6. I'm not sure if "terrible" is an appropriate word for that score.

I dunno. I'm not so unhinged about it as the guy above, but I do share some of his exhaustion at the ideological box-ticking of these TV shows.

I'm left wing and I believe everyone deserves equal rights and equal respect, but I find utterly fatuous the idea that 'representation in television shows' is an important political concern. I believe in fighting global starvation, climate change, social safety nets under increasing automation, etc - not how many transgender lesbians are in TV shows.

I do not give a fuck about that, I do not give a fuck if transgenders and/or lesbians give a fuck about that, it is not important, and I'm disturbed at the increasing frivolity, corporate-ness, and lack of depth in political life when people are seriously suggesting that this is a worthy expenditure of our political willpower and attention (which is extremely finite and scarce, regardless of what people on Twitter insist).

I dont know how you enjoyed White Lotus. It was terrible.

I cancelled, after being a member for 10 years. Three of my friends have gone back to torrents.

The main reason... Almost everything has some fringe minority edge, a gay lead, a token trans friend and most of the stuff is "victim porn" with the usual white male protagonist.

100% reason why I cancelled and the same for my friends.

Netflix, or Wokeflix is basically trash.

Unless you are a PHP developer

I see Reddit is leaking here

actually i saw this from twitter

So you need a third party tool to make an official device work properly?

The latest stable one, except Mac's because they aren't reliable *nix machines anymore. Bash is a third class citizen on MacOS now.

I'm guessing the UK. And I agree.

Yo do realise that they'll increase the prices slowly so the price you pay for ad-free now will become ad-supported. You'll definitely be paying more than you are now to keep no ads.

That's possible. But even on a strictly short-term profit maximization kick, I don't think they raise prices that much. The premium for "ad free" has been settled by the market at about $5/mo for video streaming. They'll have to introduce their new plans at at least that below their current plan to get traction.

Once they have that $5 separation, it'll be hard to raise the prices out of sync with one another.

LGB, sure. I know loads. Ts? Don't know a single one.

What fraction of Netflix's shows have trans characters?

According to this report: https://www.glaad.org/whereweareontv21

As a percentage of just the LGBTQ characters, both overall and in streaming specifically, trans characters were about 7%.

I'm not sure exactly what their total character count was, but that seems to put the percentage of trans characters solidly under 1%. Which is about right for matching the real prevalence of somewhere vaguely around half a percent. I think a slight overrepresentation could be justified, too, but there doesn't seem to be overrepresentation by these numbers.

It's fairly likely that you've met a trans person and didn't realize they were one.
