You must not remember those Congress people who traded in stocks after COVID-19 briefings. Wonder if you find that ok.

I know. It's not ok. I'm not saying that having insights like that not giving an unfair advantage. Actually in my oppinion it's inside trading and and I cannot understand why there have been no consequences.

But I was only referring to the last year (12 month).

My personal portfolio had about 40% drawdown March and April 2020. It's back up 110%+ of pre corvid since then. And I have no insight knowledge at all, just a few tech stock picks (thank you Tesla and Google) and a foundation of MSCI World ESG ETF... crazy times.

Fun fact, I even managed to loose some Money with GameStop and AMC, so I'm really bad at it.

This is also a more succinct explanation for a lot of policy 'decisions' based on 'science' which are better explained by grift. "Professional association of embezzlers and frauds makes rules to maximize their loot... news at 5."

AI is applying a gradient (loss of bonus) of a loss function to organic neural networks (human drivers) to train them to optimize against the AI’s value function (how the AI thinks is the optimal way to drive to minimize running stop signs, accidents, etc… for the company). Each paycheck is a training iteration. The organic neural networks (human drivers) are complaining that the valuation function (a machine neural network) has poor performance. The irony! It sucks to be slave to the machine.

Yes if you agree to iCloud terms as far as I can tell.

iCloud Terms and Conditions include

If you agree to the terms of service, they can change it at any time and not tell you if there are governmental reasons.

Furthermore, you agree to not use the services for things that Apple seems unlawful, harassing, threatening, harmful, abusive, tortious, defamatory, libelous, abusive, violent, obscene, vulgar, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or otherwise objectionable.

The government piece is more to let you know than anything else. The government’s of the world have repeatedly demonstrated that they can get any info they want from companies and use their powers to make sure you don’t know. See also proton mail.

What's up with the iCloud terms and conditions?

Governments don’t generally do it that way. Usually they just seize assets.

That is because if you print exadollars then either the assets rise in value in proportion or beyond a certain point, implode, making the country as a whole poorer. That is because companies can no longer make money. Suppliers demand more anticipating further inflation. You then need to pass it on but may not be able to pass it on fast enough. Cycle builds upon itself.

Pretty soon, your currency is completely devalued and there is a robust underground economy. You run into shortages for essentials and have to introduce price controls. The poor get poorer. The rich get poorer. Good job.

I have mostly good experiences with respect to the quality of products that I buy from Amazon. However, I think this is because I don't take recommendations at face value.

Instead, I look at multiple products, research them, and evaluate reviews. I don't weigh reviews equally. Instead, I look for thoughtful reviews.

In today's information manipulation landscape, you either do your own research or outsource it.

It's not just the reviews - It's that they mix inventory of the "same" item from multiple manufacturers.

I suspect that it goes beyond lip reading. Deaf people can't speak as well because there is no feedback mechanism of hearing their own voice. So you need a mechanism for them to communicate outbound in addition to the inbound lip reading. That can be via writing, text to speech, a human interpreter, etc...

The problem is costs. I wonder what people would say if you required mom and pop stores to have sign language interpreters? It would drive many out of business.

Now look at spiraling Medicare costs. We have similar expectations for the elderly and it is increasingly untenable.

We need a lot more automation to maintain or increase this level of social support services.

Another issue is what we classify as a disability. As another commentator mentioned, what about lack of strength, intelligence, etc? There is a vein of American culture that is trending that way. It basically spreads the costs to other parts of society, directly and indirectly. Tricky since most people are actually disabled temporarily or permanently in one way or another. Color blindness, myopia, bad hearing, on crutches from tearing an Achilles, etc...

Several observations:

This is just how company politics works. Those executives wouldn't be in their positions if they didn't look out for themselves first. Also it is turtles most of the way down. This experience should be a good lesson.

Only the larger of non-tech companies can get away long term with internally built tech. This is because only they have the money to build and maintain teams and build and maintain the technical expertise.

Sometimes, it still takes a massive bite in the ass for these giants to wisen up. For example, see Home Depot and their credit card scandal and then their subsequent investment in self checkout, online sales, and lockers. They have done really well for themselves.

Smaller companies eventually either get swallowed up or destroyed by bigger companies, by disruptive new players, or get a new lease on life due to the creation of a service layer below them.

Nowadays those new disruptive players are often tech plays. Also the new service layer is often tech. One example of a tech service layer is Shopify. AirBnB and Uber are examples of industries getting swallowed up by tech. Expedia is another example of disruption from the previous generation. Home Depot swallowing up more of the construction supply industry is an example of bigger players crushing smaller players. Bye OSH.

I wonder if there is a good history of how the civil rights acts and Vietnam withdrawal actually happened.

For instance, did the war protests really have that much effect or was it because the war was lost?

The war wasn't lost until the US unilaterally withdrew.
