From the paragraph before your quote:

> With Patton at the wheel, the Ku Klux Klan member fired onto the synagogue, destroying a street-facing window and spraying bullets and shattered glass near the building’s administrative offices, which were next to that of the congregation’s rabbi.

From the article:

> "A lot of young, reasonably educated people are having a hard time finding work there," Stoll said. "They're not staying in town after they graduate," leaving for the faster-growing economies of neighboring metro areas like Dallas and Austin, he said.

To add to this, you can also be automatically shadowbanned by spam filters which, at times, can be quite aggressive. I was once shadowbanned for "getting caught up with a spammy IP address" according to a mod.

That happened to some guy and he kept using reddit as normal for three years until he found out. Took it pretty well. His history is painful to look at. Just talking to himself, nobody ever responds or upvotes him.

Was in /r/TIFU recently, too lazy to get the link.

I saw that too. That's what made me check if I was shadowbanned. I'm not nearly as active as he was, but it made me realize I wasn't always just late to the discussion or something.

They've been doing it since you could tag people in status messages and comments just by typing their name, which has probably been around 2-4 years, maybe longer.

Not that it's quite the same, but I can't help thinking of decimation in the Roman sense.

the main difference :)

" The leadership was usually executed independently of the one in ten deaths of the rank and file"

Now don't start giving them any more ideas !

Not sure if you meant Instagram was not about to IPO, but rexreed meant Facebook was about to IPO (acquisition: April 14th, 2012, IPO: May 18th, 2012).

Exactly - Facebook was about to IPO and acquired Instagram pretty much right before it. Thanks for posting the dates to clarify.

Not sure about the browser, but the app is decent, while limited (no charts in spreadsheets comes to mind).

Not that big of a deal, but it means when you right-click to open the image in a new tab or save, it gives you the lo-res image (the src of the opacity 0 img tag since background images don't have this browser ability). Not sure it matters too much.

Good point, didn't think of that. I am also not sure how important that is.

Retina screens on the 4S weren't impressive? Certainly since then we've seen far better screens, but at the time it was quite impressive.

You shouldn't be using the Express version for professional development anyway, you really need to use the paid version - that's a whole different Java vs .NET debate running into OS vs proprietary that will never end.

As for NuGet, as soon as you build, all code, docs, etc are right there and it's up to the creator of the library to have created the info. It manages versioning and updating for you as well.

Excellent, I didn't know that (about NuGET), here's the link for those who are interested to know how to set it up:

Unfortunately the whole debate of OSS vs Proprietary does matter when it comes to "which tools is better". I know it'll never end but it affects the playing fields.

The fact that you can get up to speed very very quickly without spending money or talking to Finance, MS Sales/re-sellers using Eclipse+plugins and Java+OSS libraries/frameworks that were more mature is probably a significant point on this debate.

The money thing is a semi-moot point at this stage due to BizSpark. Yeah, it's a bit "drug dealer"-esque with the whole "first hit's free" thing, but you can use the full MS stack/toolset for free for 2-3 years or until you've got 1 million in yearly revenue. At that point, you can easily afford the relatively minor premium MS extracts from companies using the platform.
