My guess would be they used a one-sided pcb to connect the cable to and used half the wires. Some sockets internally link the power and ground pins, so it works both ways, but you get no resistor network and thus only standard 5v which gives you 500ma max (at best). With the resistors connected by the cable it's about 900ma to 3a which is probably what happens plugged in "correctly". Or some other magic happens on one side of the PCB to fool the charger into pushing the full 3A.
Shouldn't a compliant USB-C DFP not supply Vbus without the resistor network, though, so there should be no charging at all? (Not that all DFPs necessarily do the correct thing, of course.)
The third option is hiring someone to certify it, usually requires submitting the plans beforehand. Afaik up to 800w you can do a lot DIY here but upwards you needs certification.
These are all versions of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon [1] (or the Erdos variant if you like) and thus no surprise at all. And these includes this "clicks needed to get to porn" variant.
The cable lines here were so overcommitted that it was faster to get a lesser ADSL connection, ping was also horrible during rush hours. Unless you did all your downloads and gaming at night, then you were fine.
Unfortunately the cheap "fatbikes" every kid has here these days have no premium cells and even worse chargers and usually poor or no balancing in the BMS. I don't expect them to not catch fire and my HOA is considering to ban charging ebikes in the basement (where you put your bike) due to that. End result is likely that people with more expensive bikes and cells adhere to this and charge in the house while the cheap ass bikes will still be charged in the basement and the fire department can flood it once again when it all goes up in flames.
Exactly my point. Hypothetically, even if the level of propoganda stays the same, at least it will be promoting western interests that may be harmful to us or may not. With Chinese propoganda you can be fairly certain their interests are in strengthening their own position and weakening ours. Anyway the western propoganda machine to the extent it exists is far more fragmented and weaker then the Chinese.
In short i trust the West more then china and even if the gulf might be shrinking, it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.
I'm not sure I trust the American propaganda machine more than the Chinese one, not any more. Social media has become increasingly hostile, and there are hints that it's becoming violent. Some of these are foreign adversaries, but many of them are home-grown. They might exacerbate it but we seem to be doing it to ourselves just fine.
Not that the Chinese would be better. But I'm not sure if they'd actually make it worse.
China has not made my wife's healthcare illegal, my friends' healthcare illegal, spent my tax dollars on genocide, profited from anti-vaccine propaganda, or sponsored weekly mass shootings in my country. The people running this deal and running American social media platforms have done all of those things. I have way more trust in a platform run by China than one run by Zuckerberg or Musk or Ellison.
