Right, which is totally understandable given that the app market has been going for about 8 years now. There's obviously a shift towards apps that provide more longer term and reoccurring value to customers which is great for consumers and for the businesses that build/ship these apps.
I'm a fan of that book too, and definitely provides some constructive anecdotes.
This said, it's a survey of largely succesful organisations - and focuses in the main on what people did right. This talk was about anti-patterns, that in many cases often led to unsuccessful startups (or at least put unnecessary bumps in the road).
I can completely empathize that it's hard to talk safely about other people's private failures, especially as an investor.
The idea is that we will develop such stunning abundance that living costs will be very inexpensive and a basic income will be a manageable cost for the government.
Net of the UBI? Sure. A UBI which is exactly as redistributive as the existing welfare system would reduce taxes (or increase the UBI you receive) by the difference in the administrative costs between the existing welfare system and the UBI.
And that's before the economic benefits of increasing the incentive to work for low and middle income people by not reducing their government transfer payments when they get a job.
This kinda goes to what I was mentioning with long term vision and focus. I don't think anyone wants to work their ass off for the idea guy. I think it needs to be a community of doers not dreamers. It doesn't need to be super hierarchical or exclusive, but talk is cheap.
Have you participated in Open-Source projects? There is leadership: a few (2-3) the most active contributors. The thing is it's easier to find them if the project is Open-Source. And contributors can make sure in advance they like the project.
E.g. I started contributing to someone else's project with lots of stars on GH. And after some period of time became its maintainer and the second leader. If I had to go through interviews first and all that stuff that hiring requires, I would never be there.
