I'm sure this is well-thought and serious response, but I thought it was pretty funny. Why indeed, although I'm pretty sure most folks in psychedelic (shroom or DMT) would have sworn they're in the spiritual realm and that an omniscient deity deigned to commune with them.

Thanks for posting all those tutorials, I've learn a lot from those, great content! And keep up the good work! Also, if I may suggest, maybe you could update the React/Firebase series, convert to hooks maybe. Also, just out of curiosity, are you not a fan of TypeScript? You haven't really posted anything meaningful for that topic.

Well, on frontend he uses React/Redux/Webpack, which is more of trendy, latest/greatest. If he used Django templates + jQuery, that would have been staid/boring tech. Great post though, aspirational for those of us who wish to found their own startup one day.

I disagree. React has been out 6 years. It most definitely can prevent bugs which were common with the jQuery approach.

Well, yes it can be pointed out as bias like any other news out there but "Very dishonest ..."?

As other media organization have reported, in case you're interested: https://newrepublic.com/article/138952/rodrigo-dutertes-army... http://comprop.oii.ox.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/89/2017...

Well, if you're coming in from a non-FP background, learning Redux is intimidating. I'm a aspiring web developer (I'm coming from tech support role and my programming skill is mostly bash and bit of Python) and started looking into Redux, and yay struggled with getting started.

  const store = createStore(reducer)
Took me hundreds of console.log ('entering func blah blah') before I realize out that those reducers become properties of the object store. So yes, Redux is power tool for expert and not as nearly accessible to your average neighborhood web developer.

I'd be very happy to discuss any pain points or particular problems you've run into trying to learn Redux, and any suggestions you might have for improving the docs to make it easier for others in the future. Please feel free to ping me on Twitter, or in the Reactiflux chat channels.

Actually, I was impressed how the OP handle his setback and how he took it as a learning experience.

== Below was a supposedly reply of mine to the top commenter in Reddit, but keep getting an 504 error message ==

Not to disagree with you here since this seems to be the sentiment here, but the questions (ie. boot process/signals) he was asked was broad and would have shown if the candidate have a solid grasp of Linux fundamentals.

Hypothetical situation, say he applied for sysad job in big Linux shop like Google. Describing the boot process would have given the interviewer an idea how well he would recover from a system crashed using a rescue disk. Understanding signals are important for making non-trivial Bash scripts. And describing a symmetric/asymmetric encryption is crucial if one of you job responsibilities is to administer certificates.

Not saying the questions are easy, they're not. But if you're applying for something like a Linux sysadmin job, then these questions are good indicator how strong your skills are in this area.

Nice!

So what was the treatment that enable you to increase your concentration? Not medication I hope. I'm bad at focusing on one thing for more that 30 mins at a time, and just accept it as one of those things in life.

Yes it is medication,

I dont see any thing the matter with medication. Just like a diabetic person can not make insulin from their pancreas. An ADD person does not make enough dopamine in their brains to carry signals.

Medication of course needs to be prescribed my a medical Doctor and you should never take other peoples drugs.

There are a lot of variables, dosage, type of ADD, diet, lifestyle, history.

Medication is not the only treatment for ADD.

Here is an interesting clip http://wellnesshour.com/index.php?option=com_seyret&Item...

"Anecdotal evidence suggests that the dual n-back task also enhances focus and attention and may help improve the symptoms of ADHD/ADD."

The story was impressive, more so because you have high credibility in HN community. But inspiring? perhaps. I'm your usual hoi polloi tech support/sysad worker, it took me ages to to get comfortable in programming. To hear someone learn and did the things you did as young man was more of a case of an exceptional programmer narrative against all odds. Perhaps if you glossed over the age-factored accomplishment (it did jumped out at you) it would been more accessible and more life-lesson like, and the hard work you've put in would have been more pronounced. As it is, your life story was impressive and you were exceptional.

Great post and more power!

A bit unusual to equate C and religious belief there, but as one poster suggested, you were probably at the point where you've internalized what these religious means to you and learning C (or any subject that deals with logic/mathematics) was simply a tipping point for you.
