Here in Canada, it's sad to watch what's happening in the UK.

In the UK(like OP), they are arresting people for thought crimes. An unexpected consequence of Brexit was the loss of free speech protection of Article 10.

Opinion polling has labour in steady steep decline. Given the unprecedented attack on freedom, presumptive decimation in the next election is guaranteed at this point. There's no future for the labour party beyond 2029, absurd that they would do this to their party unless they had a plan.

You obviously don't play your cards down like they have if you're intending to have a fair election 2029; or one at all.

I died of dysentery. I didnt know that was even possible.

Based hidden burnout scenario

On the graph for aphantasia where it's words. I certainly dont imagine words. If I were to stretch the truth about seeing an apple, I maybe see an outline. Certainly no detail inside, like the relfection of light off the apple.

Psychedelics, like mushrooms, do nothing for me. Mushrooms, I've never had a high better than say a light buzz from alcohol, generally nothing. I never get the wavvy or beer goggles from alcohol. I could be absolutely smashed, drink a micky in a couple hours and still pass a field sobriety test; and im a cheap drunk. THC doesnt do much of anything. Opiates take alot; any amount of morphine and nothing. Still feel the pain. One time I had Dilaudid. That helped with the surgical pain maybe 50%; from intolerable to tolerable. Nothing though, no hallucinations or anything. Maybe at some peak I was feeling a wierd flush or wave feeling in my body but nothing significant.

I interpreted it as more of "concepts" and not the word floating in space. That's closer to how I would describe my experience. With effort I can kinda force a static visualization but for lack of a better explanation it feels almost like a wireframe pre-render. Sounds similar to how you describe it.

Dreaming feel reminiscent to what an Audiobook feels like when thinking about the dream after waking up.

Last weekend I went to my local ren faire. What a fantastic time. If you havent been to one before, definitely go. At mine, I'd say 70% of people are in a costume of some kind. 95% of the costumes were period correct or related.

I went in star trek blue. My favourite response a lady tells me that I'm violating the temporal prime directive for being in uniform. That was hilarious!

Note, I was literally the only person dressed in star trek lol.

The Ren Faire in NY has a time traveller day. Trekies abound.

Bristol, WI and the TRF in Todd Mission, TX (outside Houston) have those days too, or sometimes a weekend. You see a handful of Doctors even when it’s not one of those. When it is, you’ll see a lot of Doctors, Starfleet, and others.

You've recreated a famous Youtube comedy sketch.

I dislike that they cut this off at 2003. On those graphs it was clearly already an upward trend.

Afterall, the actual issue derives more from the 1990s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowling_Alone

Your thesis that the social issues are caused by the internet would become very weak; seeing as this started during the dial up era; pre smart phones, pre social media.

Alcohol, NSAIDs, stress, obesity, or chronic inflammation

Which given all of these factors are high in society. It's not exactly a surprise. The liver typically gets overloaded and unable to help as well.

This theory as well explains autoimmune and a myriad of other diseases that medicine "dont understand" but that's mainly because this theory is censored. You wont be able to read a page about it on wiki.

>Republicans hold the majority... hello?

The house has a majority; republicans control that.

The senate requires 60 votes in order to control which the republicans dont have. So the democrats absolutely can and have shutdown the government.

The Republicans only require 50 votes to get rid of the 60 vote rule. They can do it any time they want, but then the jig would be up, and they wouldn't be able to blame Democrats any more.

They think it's better for them politically to keep blaming the Democrats than to take responsibility for their own choices. I really can't blame them, they have made some pretty bad choices recently.

Back in normal times, the Democrats and Republicans would have been able to negotiate something, because everybody assumed the president would obey whatever budget they passed. But now even if they negotiate something, the president just cuts whatever he doesn't like, and the Republicans in Congress won't hold him to account.

>Autism may be the price of human intelligence, linked to human brain evolution

I have autism, I got a temp ban from one of the big autism subreddits because before I knew autism, I thought autistic people who seem to dominate the IT industry were simply the next evolution, far more logical, dont let emotions cloud your judgement.

But I've since understood better that indeed it's a "price" or "cost". Having no friends, no social life, and having random people for no reason at all hate you is quite a shit life to live.

Having architected some large projects, then coded, then refactored because original designs didnt work out, eventually getting a working project that does things.

Also now having done the same thing 95% ai coding.

Good taste is good architecting. Knowing what to use; how to use it and when. How to maximize KISS. Simplicity is key.

When is it right to keep it very simple and load it to a dict? When to upgrade to a panda/numpy dataframe? When to go sqlite3? When to go full on DB(postgresql?). Do you need to go that extra step in order to stay with your current design; will the code become complicated and ugly to do that? What are the upsides and downsides?

good taste is the comfort to try a new library that looks like it'll do a better job than what you know how to use now.

Does your script run in memory for long? Is that ok?

Recently I learnt about Python Slots and use them now. You look at: https://www.w3schools.com/python/python_datatypes.asp

And for some reason they dont even mention slots. but omg so much better!

Same here with regards to large systems, refactoring, and then getting things working.

I believe that is what builds taste: varied experience.

>I've been sorting through my content on Google recently.

There's allegations that gemini is already trained on this data.

>Does anybody believe Google (and other companies) might soon start scanning personal files we hold on their storage facilities? Is that a legal possibility for them?

Free accounts already have agreed to be used.

>It seems to me that it's a huge pool of fresh training data that they would inevitably want to get their hands on. And given how much they have already trained on, it seems the next logical step from a business standpoint.

Im actually not so sure they have or ever will do. The problem isnt quantity, it's quality. Sure it could train on a bunch of trash in people's but then when inferring, it'll produce trash.

>Clearly they would need to change their privacy policies and terms of agreements and inform users of these changes. Is it possible they could slip this sort of change in without much notice?

you've been agreeing to them being able to read the content of the files for antivirus and antispam reasons for a very long time. To start doing it for AI requires no change.

>I was also wondering if anybody might have pointers for the best strategy to securely backup offline. I don't want to just shift my family photos from one company to another where business execs are training their own model. Anybody else handled this recently?

One of the useful apps I found was 'foldersync' which makes backup to cifs shares possible.
