Discussion about Wikipedia not actually being in financial jeopardy has been around for some time, and I remember reading about it at least once a year, during the donation banner season. Here are a few sources that discuss them.

This is similar to how Wikipedia reacts to Internet Watch Foundation (a UK CSAM Watchdog) when it decided to block the page "Virgin Killer" (a 1976 album by German band Scorpions) and the album cover image page. FBI found no issue with it, but the UK did. The result means ISP using the IWF blocklist are getting their traffic routed to proxy server, and Wikipedia usually blocks open proxies. Eventually, news outlet reproduced the artwork in question, rendering the block moot, and IWF rescinded the block a few days later [1]

I wonder if 4chan will simply decide to ban visitors from UK from visiting based on regulatory compliance. Sometimes when I accidentally clicked on a streaming sites that were not available in my country, their error page will be simply "This content isn't available in your country", but the URL contains GDPR, even though the site is not EU-based at all, and that I'm not visiting it from EU country either.

>FBI found no issue with it

Because it's art?

Yeah similar except 4chan has no power and Wikipedia has a huge amount of power.

Three months ago there is a report that 119 Thai citizens were deported from Cambodia after a call center ring was busted. Out of these numbers, 100 willfully worked for the ring. 15 worked for the illegal gambling establishment. Only 4 minors are reportedly the victim of human trafficking. Ironically, when those people came back (willfully or otherwise), they will claim that they were being "misled" or "coerced" to do it even though the evidence suggests that they willfully do so.

Thai authorities are trying to combat this issue by cutting off supply of basic utilities (electricity, network connection) to hinder their work. The government claimed that this reduces the volume of scam attempts by 20%, though it's not entirely gone as long as they can find a way to circumvent it

Kidnapping Indian and Chinese residents for their languages skills is pretty documented. That's more of a Shan states thing than Cambodia

Exactly. Same as when prostitutes get picked up. They say they're trafficked or coerced to get a lighter sentence. Cops love it because they get to act like they're on the tail of serious crime and get more resources. Win-win at the expense of everyone else.

While I don't doubt that happens, the article shows complexes surrounded by walls and numerous guard towers. I think it is safe to assume that most of the people inside these facilities are not there voluntarily.

> deported from Cambodia

GP commented about Cambodia, but the article is about Myanmar.

Maybe that can explain the difference. (If slavery is more prevalent in Myanmar)

Following the attempts to dismantle the scam ring in Myanmar, many rings moved their base of operation to Cambodia and continued from there. That's the reason I described the scenario in Cambodia, as it's more recent, though I also recall the similar news and discussions about the scam ring in Myanmar as well.

Is that irony?

They're writing about a different country: Cambodia, not Myanmar

I suspect that they don't actually maintain the permanent library, but rather a formatted view of the content that used to be there. Some of the sites I have the URL saved have transitioned to paywall and/or merged, goes offline or disappeared for some reason, so I can't actually read many of the links I exported from it. Though for the one that actually catches interest, I'll look for it in archiving service, but it's a tiresome work to search for it one by one.

I still don't get over the fact Mozilla bought it and shattered it less than a decade later. Perhaps it doesn't make enough "impact" to justify their time and resources, and if this behavior subsists, I would be more discouraged to give them money ever again.

The permanent library was strange. Not very transparent what happened there. I am still shocked they did not invest in the original idea (tag and archive web page), but instead tried to build another content stream with recommended articles and such.

I would at least expect a Cell Broadcast to be deployed (The TelCo Authorities/Providers and Disaster Management Authority has been testing it last year and expected to be deployed in Q2 2025). According to the press conference, the system can be activated, but it wasn't until 2:30 PM that the Disaster Management Authority decided to ask the TelCo to send SMS (not via Cell Broadcast). In my case, it wasn't until 7:40 PM that I received guidance from the authority.

Some people are claiming that they received alerts from other apps that target Thai people, such as gaming app, novel reading app and call screening app. Even the SNS account of online gambling site (illegal in Thailand) managed to provide guidance faster than the government's own response. Red Tapes on triggering the warning means no one was even sure what is going on, and has to resort for self-reporting or SNS.

I am following this case closely to see how will WMF handle the issue when it goes to court, as the issue I am experiencing is similar to this one.

To describe briefly: There is a politician ("S") with articles in various languages of Wikipedia. One day, a group of people claiming to be the daughter of S ("T") tried to insert content that can be described as "trivial" and not relating to the work of S itself. Wikipedia editors, including myself, tried to argue to T that the content T inserted in an article about S isn't something that should be inserted, and despite the article of S including the criticism relating to lawsuit against S and his policy, the content was supported by books written by scholars. T simply argued that the content written in article of S is false, and threatened to bring lawsuit against editors involving in the process of keeping article of S up to standard. So far, T managed to file a police report against some editors, but no lawsuits were filed as far as I know. T also maintained presence in another forum, and I also argue that Wikipedia do not allow T to insert content of S in a manner T intended to. Instead, T decided to quote my reply out of context to defame me, causing me to send cease and desist notice. This prompted T to stalk my lawyer and publish the information, causing the lawyer and myself to discuss further action that should be taken in relation to this issue.

I have reported this incident to WMF 5 years ago, as the issue has been as long as that point. The issue on T and S has become so persistent such that I have proposed that our language of WMF project will ban any content relating to their family, as we do not want our volunteers to expose to legal liability for having to deal with frivolous lawsuit. This threatened lawsuit is one of the reasons I largely retired from writing content in Wikipedia, as I do not want accomplices of T and S to discover that I am active and that they will continue to harass me, though I'll still handle this behind the scenes if needed.

I wanted to keep it as short as possible, so I simply write "Have a great day", but it throws me error that I have to write more than 20 characters. Perhaps I need to be more creative!

Photos can be uploaded up to 16MP resolution in Google Photos "High Quality" option and will not be counted towards storage space, but that was before June 2021. After that date, Photos, emails and even Google Docs files are counted.

The count made me shift my storage provider to OneDrive, which I opted not to have my storage reduced (from 30GB) at the time they changed policy and reduced free storage to 5GB. I still retain backup in my own drive, though.

Ridge Racer Type 4 from PS1. I find the story and pacing reasonably enjoyable (if you are not aiming to collect the secret car, that is), but what sets it apart from other games is its soundtrack. Each (music) track sets the respective mood and feel to the (racing) track, and even if you didn't play the game, the soundtrack is great in its own right. I also find the (racing) track's design in PS1 much better than the one used in PSP counterpart.

In my case, I have to hide the fact I seek treatment for mental health to avoid being denied registration to practice law as a solicitor. While it is not an absolute ground to reject registration, declaring that I have mental health issue would require me to produce medical certificate that I was treated with one, even though it's no longer relevant to present situation

Conversely, I have to declare the fact I was treated for medical health at specific military hospital to obtain medical certificate to be presented at the drafting installations. I have to do this for three years until they decided not to bother drafting me and certified that I participated in the draft, but not fit to be one

I still seek mental treatment on a quarterly basis, though with myself going freelance, I no longer have to worry that my treatment will be detrimental to employment and work

In the US, mental problems aren’t an automatic disqualifiet to sitting for the bar, but being evasive with the bar investigators usually is.
