I hope they will apply the same standard to other social media companies.

And while they're at it, they should take a look at the data that Google collects from kids using Chrome and Chromebooks.

Google's claims in this area seem simple and strong. What are you suggesting?

"Google will only access, use, and otherwise process Customer Data in accordance with the Cloud Data Processing Addendum and will not access, use, or process Customer Data for any other purpose. Without limiting the generality of the preceding sentence, Google will not process Customer Data for Advertising purposes or serve Advertising in the Services. Google has implemented and will maintain technical, organizational, and physical safeguards to protect Customer Data, as further described in the Cloud Data Processing Addendum."

I read this earlier this year:

But I'm certain there were more similar suits in the USA. I don't think there's been one in Canada.

I don't know if you already knew this but in America anyone can file a complaint that says just about anything. Here, to balance out your link, is the other party's reply. https://edtech.law/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2025.07.14-Goo...

So a weak fine that is rolled into cost of doing business expense? AKA nothing.

They can't fine at the OPC, they can't even force action. Though sometimes that is a good thing as it opened up some room for class actions, in Ontario at least.

Sure, but that's missing the point. Nothing will be the result. So in this case, somebody won't be lining their pockets with a nothing burger fine. So less than nothing is the result.

I wish that the collection of data were toxic just in case you accidentally collect the data of a child. I’d happily let chrome think i were a six year old if it meant they wouldn’t abuse their market position to steal user data.

"US special forces killed North Korean civilians in botched 2019 mission, NYT says" is the title of the article. Why is it different when submitted?

Yeah, I don't think Google is the "exclusive" on either Apple OSes or Firefox. Just the default.

> The decision said that Apple's deal with Google to be the default search engine was "exclusive" because it established Google as the default out-of-the-box search engine.

I’m confused what deals the court would accept as non-exclusive then. Do they have to randomize the default search engines when you first boot a new iPhone?

using that argument nothing is exclusive, no browser is hard coded to a single search engine

It shows you how well the judge understands the situation. More or less the remedy is keep doing what you are doing.

Yeah, one of the tests for "Fair Dealing" exceptions to copyright in Canada is ... could you have produced you work without infringing copyright. If so, then it's not Fair Dealing.

Very cool, Krish! Hi from Fort McMurray! I'm going to use this project as an example for a Computer Science class.

Yeah, the video mentions both names. Whoever made the title didn't include Wozniak, but the video definitely does.

We updated the title to credit both, thanks!

That's awesome; making the world a better place one title diff at a time haha.

I'm Canadian. Before Trump, I made several trips a year to the USA. all my vacation money was spent there. Now I go to Europe every summer instead.

Meanwhile, I recently received a survey from some industry association in the USA asking what it would take for me to return to travelling in the USA. Like asking a bunch of questions about accommodations, travel, flights, etc. Without even mentioning the obvious.

Do Americans not know how they are perceived in the rest of the world?

As an American, I can only believe it because I know the dipshts that got elected. I wouldn't come here. This is all a real wtf.

Note that in the pre-social media era, this particular bs would not be possible.

You'll be happy to know that Imagination Library sent monthly books to my 3 Canadian kids as well! We loved every single one of them!

In Portugal, I tend to fill a big jug with tap water (which I know is safe, I watched them put in the treatment plant!), but then leave it in the fridge. After a bit of time, the chlorine just evaporates. So it's nice and cool.

The chlorine in the water is still there, but yes, the free chlorine (which is what you smell/taste) dissipates fairly quickly once it isn’t contained.
