I just googled him to see what you were talking about. First article of his blog just blew my mind

You have the largest prison population in the world, at some point maybe you should try a different solution

This makes no sense. Both sides of this interaction already seem to agree that the child should be restricted.

One uses it as a justification for the sanitizing of the internet and the other thinks it should be the parents job.

Don't pretend to champion some sort of bigger faith in children, that was never the point of the discussion

Perhaps there are more than two sides, or the sides aren't what you think they are.

I for one like to know what I'm supporting when I buy a product or a service.

But the argument isn't "this company supports/promotoes/whatever something bad", but rather, "someone important in this company supports something bad", and that's a very different thing.

Also work a big corp Clojure job. Would be awesome to see some of the libs go open source

> They all have advice for how to live our lives, and none of them can agree. If you take the sum of their advice, you have to do everything at once

Well yeah, different people have different views of how to accomplish stuff. You should have to reason a bit about what you read to figure out your own approach

Agree, after years and years of being inundated with self-help messages, platitudes, and coming-of-age teachings, I find most of it comes from a good place — however the messages are so context specific that it probably doesn’t apply to you in your current juncture in life right now.

I find what is crucial when it comes to taking advice, is figuring out when advice makes sense to you — and try to synthesize it as food for thought within your world view (or not).
