Not going to lie, I never would have thought someone could sell those for $10/each.

Same here and on my laptops I don't need the extra finger touch. It just works.

I have had a work MPB for years and while the touchpad is nice I just use the other touchpads with no problems.

Then again as I like bigger displays I use an external keyboard and mouse when not traveling.

Funny enough I recently came across this video [1] about ultra-processed foods maybe being labeled "predigested". It sort of got me thinking but makes an interesting point that if you take a basic ingredient like a potato and break it down into a starch slurry it does sound like it has been pre-digested.

I wish that was so straight forward. You can google this incident where an empty lot got a 35K water bill and the water company said it was an error, then backtracked on that and still saying 35K is due.

> Towards the end of 2023, the DWM seemingly corrected the issue. Revive received an email stating: “The prior balance on the account reflected water leakage that was the result of Department of Watershed actions. Once the leak was addressed and the account properly adjusted, the corrected balance for the property is $219.24.” However, DWM soon backtracked and claimed that the $219.24 quote was made in error and that the nearly $30,000 balance still applied.

Sounds like some kind of corruption scheme or a very isolated case.

The OP must be talking about eastern Alaska ;)

Agree, I wish the manufactures would do something to reign in these costs as it is doing a disservice to EVs.

Anyone on the fence about purchasing a BEV, a headline like this doesn't bode well.

The only thing I can think of is the high voltage. I don't mind working with 220v but anything higher I tend to shy away with. I think some of the voltage systems in the battery packs can peak at 800v with most of them between 400v and 600v.

The voltages are not going to be high enough to cause things like arcing through air. Basic precaution is necessary.

The idea is not even that you yourself are going to replace it, its more for shops with equipment and skills to order individual cells, put together battery packs, and then just replace them in cars without worrying about compatibility.

The EV is also DC, significantly more dangerous than the AC at the same voltage.

Well, no, AC is more lethal, also it contracts the muscles more easily.

The high voltage ranges are different between AC and DC, with AC being lower than DC range due to the higher risk.

My understanding is that DC currents are more dangerous as the effect is continuous. Whereas there is some electrician humour that at least with AC you have 50 chances per second to pull away (Americans get 60 chances per second)

It's not so straightforward. Volts, amps, and frequency (in the case of AC) all play a factor in lethality of electricity.

I've been shocked by 300V DC @ 500mA and I'll take the equivalent AC any day. Obviously both can kill you, but the DC was far more painful and instantly gave me 3rd degree burns. Also made me ululate some kind of tone I didn't even know the human throat could emit.

The consensus I've heard from a few family members who work in airport maintenance is that HVDC will make you wish you were dead, while HVAC will make you dead dead.

Even in college, I was taught AC passes on your skin away from your heart and is therefore safer at the same voltage. Is this a myth?

It's complicated and likely not at all relevant at 50 or 60 Hz frequencies. You want the sqrt(2p/ωμ) formula if you're curious.

keep in mind that peak voltage of AC is 1.4 of nominal. So keeping hat in mind, range is about same.

That is impressive!

For one off for technical folks on both ends I like the magic-wormhole cli tool. https://github.com/magic-wormhole/magic-wormhole

Just FYI, Quiet also allows unlimited file transfer size: https://tryquiet.org/

Not saying it is most efficient, but for non tech friends, that may be an option.

And for non-technical folks I use wormhole.io.

If you are working with technical people might as well just use ftp and be done with it

100% agree with #4. Enjoy it while it lasts though. All the Aldis near us for us have removed almost all of the checkout lines for the self check out. They are the worst. Imaging shopping for a large family with a fully loaded card and have to scan 100+ items.
