pick your clique: nerds & hustlers

the two tribes of tech

im not smart enough to be around the nerds, but im not douchey enough to hang with the hustlers. I pick nerds. Hopefully they accept me.

not a great basis of discrimination tbh, there are people with dignity in spirit and there are those without, there's no other quirks etcetra for you or anyone else to have to identify yourselves/others with as very essential.

this whole thing stinks

his books exist mainly to help sell consulting gigs

there was a whole tribe of 90s oh-oh pundits hustling

for every new technology mankind has developed, the safety rules are written in blood, based solely on the series of calamities and inhumanities that followed the invention’s wake

it’s not gonna be any different this time

Many are saying this.

it is surreal to watch the relentless beating MS has taken at its own hands

there’s no competitor out there clobbering them, they are doing this to themselves

We need a new commercial OS. Surely there’s a way to monetise it without ads, spyware, and LLM garbage.

I honestly don’t think so for any consumer focused ones.

Including it with bespoke hardware kinda works but is so expensive to actually do.

Someone should work on Linux to make something better than gnome or kde and charge for it. I would pay.

Those 750$ M4 mac books are going to be forced to be reckoned with if they keep this shit up

very positive experience with vite so far. Use it to bundle a shared model/msg library for client & server, manage front end dev with it, very stable, have had no motivation to move away from it.

that morning meeting where we all take turns making statements to justify our existence rather than harmonize our efforts

Been an X programmer since early 90s; read about W but never encountered a working install. Impression was that others felt all its best ideas survived in X, so nobody tried to keep W alive.

I have been enjoying containerd & nerdctl on Debian for almost 2 years after being a docker user for ~7 years.

nerdctl uses the same syntax, all my compose.yml files still worked, been a very stable experience, have never considered going back

no comment on winders or macs options, never touch them for dev work

Nice, are you collaborating with developers at your company? Or is this more for personal use?
