This looks like Apple’s foray into smart glasses. They seem to be following Meta’s path — but Apple can win this race via their signature strengths: tech support at their stores when your glasses break, durable hardware and focus on privacy (their glasses could blur or anonymize strangers’ faces in photos/videos who havent authorized themselves).
Meanwhile, my two pairs of Meta Ray-Bans are basically trash now. Loved them while they worked — but they break way too easily, and one completely died after a software update.
Maybe Apple’s working on smart glasses — one with a display, one without — to rival Meta. Honestly, Meta’s glasses are cool… until they break. And they do break!
Meta’s biggest weakness? No in-person support. Unlike Apple, they don’t have stores where you can walk in and get help.
My two pairs of Meta Ray Bans are broke - one was hosed after a software update.
I own two pair and love them yet hate them also because they are not durable and my 1st pair bought Oct 2023 stopped being smart in April so I bought a 2nd pair. After some big-ish water splashes the second paired died in June.
Smart glasses are great for ppl who wear some type of glasses and use their phone to take pics. Also, when I was in Europe asking about my surroundings enhanced my trip per my learning of about many sights I explored in Berlin and Amsterdam.
I do love and miss them but I’m not buying another pair til they are rock solid durable! Also the Ray Ban stores need to act just like Apple stores in terms of tech support but they do not ..and thus both Meta and Ray Ban are just selling a toy that easily breaks / doesn’t last. Even a Ray ban customer service rep said these things break I get so many calls.
I would hire this guy he stands out from the competition! He has tenacity, grit and more creativity then the majority. So much more creativity that multi thousands of HN(ers) have enjoyed his creation, their friends and tech journalists who some will write about it showing his work to many more thousands to millions. Getting a job isnt easy now but being like this guy will no doubt make it easy to get many offers!
Ive been needing to update my portfolio site as in August an out of nowhere opportunity knocked on my door. Seeing this makes me want to innovate my portfolio for said opportunity(thanks for the inspiration).
My college professor (English) friends are doing this. Making students hand write and do their assignments during class. I think it's great, thanks AI!
Once gmail added labels way back when ive kept my inbox clean using a spam gmail address. Ive given that out for more then a decade to anyone not a friend, family or acquaintance. It gets forwarded to my real gmail address to a folder called "Zunk."
Along with those being fooled there are many comments saying this is fake, AI trash and etc. That portion of the commenters are teaching the ignorant and soon no one will believe what they see on the Internet as real.
Not here in Southern York County, PA. I would not buy any house in an HOA and all houses i have bought (sold) were not in an HOA in the various towns here.
And being overHyped with the doom and gloom of it's affects on society.
chatGPT (5) is not there especially in replacing my field and skills: graphic, web design and web development. The first 2 there it spits out solid creations per your prompt request yet can not edit it's creations just creates new ones lol. So it's just another tool in my arsenal not a replacement to me.
Such Makes me wonder how it generates the logos and website designs ... is it all just hocus pocus.. the Wizard of OZ?
I don't know much about it but apparently we've been having success at work with Figma MCP hooked up to Claude in Cursor. Apparently it can pull from our component library and generate useable code (although still needs engineering to productionalize)
I don't know about replacing anyone but our UI/UX designers are claiming it's significantly faster than traditional mock ups
Well until these LLMs are able to spit out initial creations it's user likes and then is able to edit it properly per each request entered into the text prompt our jobs are safe! Even better if you are also a UX Researcher along with a Designer and Developer. Research requires human interaction and AI can't touch that present to a decade or more away.
