I’ve spent some time in a Juniper Model Y and BYD Sealion 7.
The most notable areas where BYDs are still not competitive with Tesla are the interior (fit and finish is worse, the styling is unrefined and busy), the software (a buggy lightly skinned version of android), the suspension (BYD feels floaty whereas the Model Y feels grounded and responsive), and parts availability. If something goes wrong with BYDs in Australia, you can be without a car for months while waiting for parts to slowly steam across the ocean.
The BYD is cheaper, but only by about 10%, which is not enough in my view to offset the overall feeling of still being a work in progress.
That said, I really hate the onscreen gear selector in the Model Y. I’m fine with most controls being onscreen but I want a physical control for gear slection.
Why? The answer is easy: the work is pointless corporate bullshit. Not sure if it ever going to hit the prod at all. But they pay huge salary and I need money. Turns out nice things are expensive.
I was going to post something similar until I saw your comment. I completely agree. It's difficult to motivate oneself when one knows the work they are doing is actually not worth doing.
I see it the same as with alcohol, tobacco and other substances. Lack of self-control. Modern food is specifically engineered to be addictive and easy to get. Full of starch, sugars and fats.
There will be no obesity if person maintains a low calorie intake.
Kamikaze FPV drones starts from $400 (without warhead), from $1000 if it has 20km of optic fiber or is an interceptor. If it is not a kamikaze, like heavy bomber or reconnaissance - $10k+.
How much does 20km of optic fibre weigh? Why don't these fibre strands suffer from the same physical limits as cabling used in suspension bridges? To be clear: I am not doubting that multi-kilometer optic fibre controlled drones do not exist. There are plenty of highly quality news sources and YouTube videos about them.
>> Eastern Europe is one of the hottest places to be in tech right now.
Market there is much better than in western countries, but I see projects are pushed from Poland further to the Asia. UBS is laying off thousands there, moving projects to the Indian office.
They had $1.7bn net profit for Q1 2025. It's good for bottom line in short term to outsource to the cheapest location. Also they have tons of internal project which does not need any quality at all. Could get a bunch of students in the cheapest location for such things.
Some of Tesla vehicles are as innovative as ridiculous and illegal(in many countries).
