How can they get away for not providing you free services ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumping_(pricing_policy)

It’s entirely possible to be illegally anti-competitive while giving shit away for discount/free.

I think the sentiment was that without ad revenue Google could not afford to provide free services. As a rule, "stuff" costs someone something.

Maybe I don't want "free" services if it means I have to pay with my attention and mental health.

well the paper also contains the code so I doubt anyone who looked at the paper cares about this paste - for folks who did not read the paper this is not very readable

nice excuse for not being able to maintain relationships. Going by your logic, maintaining one in poorer countries should be impossible

I suspect there are other complicating factors in western cultures that may but additional stress on relationships, including blaming yourself instead of the environment for your situation.

Being an average person in a poor country is very different from being poor in a rich country.

very much this. in "poor countries" people can have a lifestyle that matches their income, and they can survive on that. yes, many struggle, and they all would like to have a better life, but most can at least find an affordable place to live and don't go hungry.

the problem in "rich countries" is that affordable places to live are missing. so being poor without government support to pay for a home causes you to be homeless.

sure Brave is a saint, pitchforks only allowed for Google

if you want to pick who you want to work with, maybe start your own company

and then you will probably figure out yourself that you need the H-1Bs

Because you compete with other businesses. If labor regulations allow companies to do X, and one or more companies actually do X, then others have to follow suite and do X or be undercut. It’s simply the prisoner’s dilemma but the prisoners are companies and exploiting labor is defecting.

What if I visited the US for business/as a tourist during this period but reside in EU ? Can I still claim ?

Were you in the United States and used Facebook during that time period? If so, then yes.

The form then says you had to be US resident

please - layoff with fat severance does not give them a license to spread misinformation

It's not confirmed that this is misinformation. I agree it sounds unlikely, but that comment can be delivered with much more compassion. Remember, this is someone who may be feeling upset, angry, frustrated, or many other things.
