A lot of Canadians are sick and tired of our corrupt, lying government. It's laughable to reduce critics of Trudeau and the Liberal party as mere "convoyers" or "Ontario proud" characters.
I voted for Trudeau in 2015 and am so fucking done with this clown and his party.
That's not the issue here. It's that this is the entirely wrong place to go off-topic and begin airing political grievances. It just screams "bots and agents."
Chez Monique saved my ass. Despite doing my best to plan and ration my food, I burned through it at an alarming rate. I re-upped hard at Moniques and it got me through the remainder of the hike.
This blog post exaggerates the danger. I did this hike in 2011 and while very strenuous, is not as extreme as the author makes it out to be.
That said, underestimate it at your peril. There was a posse of "fancy Moms" from Toronto along the trail when I did it. Several of them tapped out on day 2.
The West Coast Trail is the definition of type 2 fun. While certainly a memorable experience, I wouldn't do it twice.
For good reason. I live in Ottawa and interact with a good many government workers that aren't shy about how little work they do. I'm not convinced increasing comp is going to somehow motivate these folks into greater productivity.
Raising the bar in the public sector is a complex topic: there are jokes about lazy public workers all over the (western?) world. There's no competition and the goals aren't as clear as profit VS loss.
But if you refuse to have competitive wages, no competent software engineer will want to work in government. Then you get some contractor job from a consulting company and good luck with that: many are happy to send a handful of junior developrts to fill their multi million contracts, with their seniors hopping in just enough time to justify the billing.
