> Bank Simple doesn't appear to bring a whole lot new to the table.
BankSimple, unlike Mint/Wesabe, is an actual bank* (*ok not techincally for regulatory reasons, but you will store money with them). You will keep/deposit your money there, and be able to spend it via BankSimple-branded debit cards. Its a whole additional level of integration over Mint/Wesabe, which are just web frontends to existing bank accounts
And this is actually very important to realize before you will begin to understand the completely different paradigm this allow for. It's a very big thing that it's not "just" a frontend. It means access to completely different kinds of data.
I think you are wrong - From their own FAQ:
So, what’s the deal...are you a bank?
No, but we replace your current banking relationship. That is, BankSimple provides a modern online banking experience, top-notch customer service, and beautiful mobile apps. Our partner banks hold our customers’ funds in FDIC-insured products and ensure regulatory compliance. BankSimple’s partner banks aren’t large banks, and have been chosen for the safety of their balance sheets and technological capabilities.
not working for me either (Also SF). From here,
blog.crohnology.com CNAMEs to sfibd.posterous.com, but that doesn't work for reason's unknown to me (IP returned is 184.106.20.99)
Looks like a great site. I'm very fortunate that my Crohn's is doing well enough that I'm not particularly looking for more information, but I'm very happy to help others.
Thank you so much. I think there are two sides of the spectrum: patients that are in dire need of help and information, and patients that are 'veteran' and have a lot more information to give. I think these two sides of the spectrum actually work really well in concert. Experienced patients helping new and sick ones. I think both of these groups get a lot out of that interaction. It's really empowering to help others, especially when they really need it.
My first website was a combo package from them, which included a domain name.
When I had my own server and tried to transfer the domain there was no way for me to get them to release the domain name.
If I cancel my hosting account, then I would have to wait until the domain expires and becomes available again, so that I can then re-register it with another registrar, was their reply.
No matter what I tried I couldn't get them to let me transfer the domain name away from them or even update the nameservers to make it point to the new server.
Things surely have changed by now but because of their policy I lost a well established domain name, so that I haven't touched their services ever since.
Yep, the Fremont DC has been down at least 3 times in the past year. I still love Linode, but i'll probably move my (personal) VPS to another of their facilities.
1) Its some extra work for what is likely a tiny portion of their target user demographic (note: this isn't the demographic that would use a normal signup if it was an option as supposed to facebook connect, just the ones that won't use it at all if it isn't)
2) They get nice benefits of forcing people to use facebook auth, eg friend lists within the app. Turntable knows all of my friends who use the service, and can show me rooms that they are using. If there was an alternate non-facebook signon that I had used instead, this wouldn't work out
3) The signup is probably more frictionless for users, many of whom are fickle and might not sign up if it seems like a lot of work. I say probably because I don't have experience with tracking conversion rates or anything here-this is just a guess
This is what, the 3rd? 4th? power outage in that facility in the last year? I realize that it's not directly Linode's fault, since this is Hurricane Electric's facility that they lease from, but its still pretty frustrating. I have a personal VPS there which I use to do an hourly data grab, so I missed a few this morning. This is just a personal pet project so no huge deal, but if I was running some actual production-level stuff there I would be very wary of using that facility.
