People like witch hunts, though: that's the point. If a "big platform" was to get less witch-hunty, it would start to lose users.


Is there any example of this ever happening? A major platform losing a non-trivial proportion of their users for not censoring them?

The network effect is strong. That's the problem to begin with. If people would quit so easily then there would be a lot more platforms and competition and we wouldn't be having this discussion.


slashdot is a cesspool and a wasteland now. It is dominated by ridiculous nonsense, bots, spam, ascii swastikas etc.


Since when was it not? It died for much the same reasons as Myspace, not for lack of censorship.

And Slashdot has a moderation system that hides that stuff.
