I'm pretty sure Riot was the original name of Element until 2020.

Vector was the name, before they renamed to Riot.

I believe the parent comment is referencing the fact that the Element application used to be called Riot [1].

The other comments are right. I found it mildly amusing that this happened after the name change, which was presumably in part motivated by some worries over political correctness.
