The ecosystem is what makes the huge difference, especially thanks to Laravel.

So much documentation everywhere. So many helpful resources.

I've tried to learn Rails back in the days (ie 7 years ago) and was shocked by how poor the entire documentation is. I subscribed to Railscast but it hasn't been maintained for years.

The PHP ecosystem, however, is incredibly alive.
