I'm not sure if the amusing title here was arrived at due to space but it's heavily editorialised from the original, which makes it clear they are the targets of that particular insult:

“They Are Such an Asshole”: Describing the Targets of a Common Insult Among English-Speakers in the United States"

...so they're PageRanked assholes?

I don't know, then I assume by your account the demography who are often the target of the insult "bitch" are also "PageRanked bitches"?

You're catching on

If all the clickbait manufactured by the media wasn't enough for you, now it seems that the "scientists" are also competing in that market.

Another way to say that, is that bigotries are so difficult to extinguish because they are so often predictive. That is, it may be an adaptive strategy to presume that I am an asshole due to my age and gender, until I demonstrate otherwise.

But "just" does not equal "adaptive".

I don't think that conflating stereotypes with bigotry is fair, especially in this context.

Isn't a bigotry a form of a stereotype? If so it's like conflating apples with fruit.

no

it's as simple as a category error. those are not the same thing.

Stereotypes are a legitimate shortcut to critical judgment. But they are only shortcuts. Forming a conclusion of causation based on stereotypes is the epitome of sloppy, bigoted logic. And it happens a lot.

Whenever I see something sexist like this, I like to imagine what kind of public outrage there would be if the gender roles were simply switched.

For example, these "researchers" could have easily made a different "discovery": "Biggest Karens Often Middle-Aged Women"

Oh oh! Well, at least I'm one standard deviation older than the worst!
