I signed up for newrelic with unique email ([email protected]) and I was surprised after couple months to receive spam email on that address. I am not sure how spammer got that email address - I would not expect newrelic to sell emails just to anyone - maybe business partners but not to just random spammer. Also, I have been getting spam on that email only from one spammer which makes me think maybe email was not sold but was obtained by some unauthorized way.
