I hope this new battery (really a bunch of improvements on current battery construction) helps to advance the capabilities of batteries in general. But batteries don't have "range." This battery may improve the range of the cars it's installed in, or it may just make them smaller or cheaper. That's up to the designers of the car, its battery pack, and associated power electronics and motors.
