a few millimeters off may cause a huge gap, given the overall dimension of the enclosures, maybe it was a few tenths of millimeters.
I can feel the pains you went through, though it seems like the typical hiccups that may happen on any manufacturing process, apart the COVID related issues, I have seen same or very similar delays/problems in any non trivial project, where diferent manufacturers/suppliers are involved.
