Polaroid Now Makes Speakers and Operates a Streaming Music Service (petapixel.com)

IMHO it’s a bad idea.

Market for bluetooth speakers and music streaming apps is saturated.

Their users base didn’t ask for this and they are unimpressed at best or even hangry.

The Polaroid company of today is a small company. I understand they are trying to diversifying their business and monetize their worthy brand but they are probably just wasting resources and damaging their brand: Polaroid should be all about instant photography not branding some lifestyle electronics from some OEM in China.

They are repeating errors from the past, they already failed two times trying this move.

I am curious how this effort will pay off because I feel the speaker and music app category is pretty crowded.

The app claims five ad-free channels and it looks to be more of a something you play in the background. Which is nice, but the speakers from a design perspective are loud and noticeable which goes against "background music"

I will be honest, I might not be the targeted audience for this product at all, but I do hope Polaroid succeeds in this new product/service portfolio.

What does the word "Makes" mean here? Do they design the drive units, the amplifiers, etc.? Or do they just send the requirements to Shenzhen and have a factory assemble the product from off the shelf parts?

I'm not criticizing, just curious.

Probably the latter

"We wanted it to sound like a Polaroid picture”

So... the wobble-wobble sound when you... shake it, shh shh shh shake it like a Polaroid picture?

(Sorry I couldn't help myself)

Despite common knowledge you should not shake a Polaroid picture while it's developing.

It's a heritage from the pack film era during the 60s.
