Ask HN: Does Dvorak keyboard offer anything to the phone typist?

A native Dvorak keyboard has finally become available on iOS. Does it offer any of its supposed ease-of-use advantages when used in the one/two finger/thumb patterns that we usually use on our phones?

I've always thought it would be cool to learn Dvorak, but was too lazy to print new stickers for my keys on my normal full keyboard. I've turned Dvorak on on my iPhone and I appreciate that all of the vowels are on the center line. With time, I could see how I'd learn this. But I'm not sure if the "reduced reach/movement" translates from full handed keyboarding to just thumb keyboarding.

It doesn't offer anything to anybody

quotes "[T]he evidence in the standard history of Qwerty versus Dvorak is flawed and incomplete. [..] The most dramatic claims are traceable to Dvorak himself; and the best-documented experiments, as well as recent ergonomic studies, suggest little or no advantage for the Dvorak keyboard.

i use dvorak keyboard on my phone (via swiftkey). for swiping input style, it really sucks. my spouse always have difficulty using my phone. it also forces me to use both thumb to effectively type on it. the only thing that keeps me using it is i just don't have the energy to go back to qwerty (which makes swipe typing more bearable). oh, and it provides some level security by obscurity for password typing ux.
