Tell HN: You need an efficent mouse setup with mapped mouse button actions

The majority of my time "developing" is actually spent in a web browser skimming through documentation, googling for stuff, browsing through pages and going back and forth in history.

For about a decade now I've been using a series of mice with two mappable buttons on each side set up in the following way:

Left side: Forward and Back

Right side: Page Up and Page Down

I have found this to be incredibly effective. Bonus: It also works really well in VS Code, Spotify and other Electron-like apps.

You need a mouse with at least two buttons on each side. Advanced mice are called gaming mice nowadays. They come in all shapes. At the moment I'm using an old wired Razer Lancehead. Logitech has at least one current model with two mappable buttons on each side. Razer Viper 8KHz (sic) is another one.

Good advice. I'm a voice actor, and my "IDE" is my digital audio workstation. I've customized it with a significant number of mouse actions, macros keyboard shortcuts and more to save time and increase my efficiency. Thinking through and iterating on your setup can lead to incrememtal efficiency gains so profound that when you don't have them the work feels impossibly slow.
