Complaint about a Unicode consortium decision from 2006 on external link symbol contrasting it with either legacy symbols (for an ability to encode any previously encoded text using prior encodings) or with a significantly more recent emoji push.

Was it not obvious already in 2018 that goals have shifted a bit in response to how people have started using Unicode?


There's U+1F517 LINK SYMBOL, which sometimes gets used for this purpose.
