I interpreted this as does the TikTok app try to access or enumerate other devices on the home WiFi network.
For example, many streaming apps and even TV remote apps ask for permission to do this. Now it is understandable for those apps to do it.
The answer “we do not do anything outside of industry standards” is infuriating. TikTok does ask for access to the local network and for what reason is beyond me.
The fact he says multiple times “if that’s what you mean” tells me he knows that there are other possibilities. And just doesn’t want to talk about them. That’s exactly how someone evasive behaves.
Congress should have recruited some real technical experts to grill this guy up on a silver platter.
The fact that these discussions are taking place in this form in the first place (how many suboptimalities can you identify?) is a bit suspicious in the first place is it not? Did that cross your mind?
