Ask HN: What type of software development won’t AI replace? Or at least later on

It’s given that app development is going to go first, much of it has already been done away not by Ai but low code frameworks.

I have a feeling fundamental software will take a long time. Browser engines, game engines, compilers, os kernels.

Just putting together a new thing from scratch takes people and probably will for a long time. Where I work, for example, I was charged with creating the company's public website with a 1st and 3rd party trading market for in-game items, as well as a second internal dashboard site for employees.

Now, that's not a prompt you can give to an AI. Too many moving parts, and too many steps to get to the finish line. I use Copilot and love it, but it's not going to write my apps, make decisions that I have to make (and defend), nor keep up with constant changes from designers and from the backend API. I'm confident I'll be doing that for the foreseeable future.
