'Data Have Spoken LK-99 Is Not a Superconductor,' Says US Research Center (slashdot.org)

So everyone in [0] fell for the ‘LK-99’ fake news story and fraud then.

A complete distraction now added on to the long list of fraudulent superconductor discoveries.

Each time a ‘scientific breakthrough’ is claimed, it must be thoroughly examined with extreme skepticism now that anything can be faked for attention.

A shame really.

News, and perhaps journalism as a whole, is in a race to the bottom and it’s simply impossible to ask them to hold off on running a story with the title “new material promises to change the world” until it’s proven.

I’ll gladly pay upwards of $50-100 per month for an AI that gives me non-clickbait headlines for all the substantial, verified news happening. Tired of having my time wasted by this profession and their obsession with getting clicks.

A lot of people in [0] were just getting their cues from actual physicists who were, for the most part, skeptically and cautiously optimistic at that point in time. I wouldn't call that "falling" for fake news/fraud. I would call that a sensible approach to forming opinions about what to believe.

I really enjoyed the social media aspect of the scientific process on this. Peak post truth modern science at work.

With valid outcomes - cool.
