In terms of self driving car technology I do wonder once it matures how new entrants will ever be able to get into the market.

Why would you let, by definition, more dangerous cars on the road in order to perfect their software, when perfectly good solutions exist?

Perhaps in the end Waymo will be forced to license the base technology somehow.
