The headline does sound impressive, but am I the only one that’s also disappointed? Their website says they’ve logged over 40M miles in total. That is an insane number and many times more than a person would ever drive in their entire lifetime, let alone in just 3 cities.
I’m imagining a fleet of cars driving in generally sunny weather cities of SF, LA, and Phoenix, driving every street thousands of times over. After all that, saying they perform better than a human just doesn’t wow me that much.
After 40M miles of testing, bring it to Chicago, Boston and NY and let us see how they do in the summer and then in winter. Are they going to do terribly at first because they need another 100M+ more miles of training?
