Nitpick: it's ESP8266, not ESP8622, which is also not the same as ESP32 as mentioned in the title. Otherwise good article. I love seeing broken IoT junk get upgraded like this.
Came to say the same. Big difference in programming language support -- in addition to arduino (or C I presume?) the esp32c3 can be programmed in no_std rust, either 8266 or 32 can be programmed with micropython. Or apparently you can just use ESPHome, which sounds like the easiest approach if all if it suits your use case!
ESPHome is the sh*t.I keep reading articles on HN about its uses and have ti agree everytime. Of course this is coupled with HomeAssistant which also comes with metrics. Just phenomenal.
Anyone designing Open Source spare boards for washing machines and other household appliances could make a fortune just by charging for the substitution alone. There's a huge market out there as original spare parts are absurdly overpriced. Not to mention the number of repaired appliances that won't be thrown away.
