Most of the ideas behind this lived on after the browser wars, in the CSSOM. And the harder parts got covered later with the styleSheets API


I knew many things were implemented but not 'where', so thanks :)

The article is a fascinating slice of history, and a view into an alternate world of how CSS could have worked. Even if the features remained, the different method of applying styles is... well, a parallel world, alternate history.


Skimming the text, this seems like a decent quick intro to the CSSOM as it is relevant today:

it also says:
