The first handheld console I owned was a Game Boy Advance SP with a copy of Metroid Fusion. It's still one of my favourite games and the namesake for my handle.
I remember distinctly that the instruction manual for the game contained brief synopses of the previous titles in the series, which piqued my curiosity. Not owning a NES or a SNES, I searched online for ways I could play those games and figured out I needed to download snes9x and something called a ROM. Super Metroid quickly became my favourite in the series and the genre as a whole.
As a kid with not much money I ended up playing a lot of emulated games. My fascination with "retro" stuff certainly began there.
