Some see a rich person donating money like that and wrongly assume some sort of ulterior motive.


When said rich person pays money to promote their own philanthropy, I do inherently assume an ulterior motive, yes. A few years ago, influencers were bribing homeless people to humiliate themselves in exchange for a warm meal, now it's back with a feel-good coat of paint and trendy branding.

A true-blooded philanthropist commits to charity on nothing other than principle. Mr. Beast represents a jealousy for respect that all effective altrusts grapple with. There is no return-on-investment for the ultimate kindness.
