Back to the basic question. Treat people like animals or like human beings?
If you've ever gone outside in certain parts of the world, there are many humans who treat other humans like animals. It's sad and cruel, but true. Pretty sure I know what they would choose.
That being said, I hope that eventually, we will grow up as a species.
UBI was always a pipe dream IMO, for one principle reason: you can turn it on, but you can't turn it off again. Once people get UBI any politician who responds to changing conditions necessitating reduction or elimination of UBI will have no chance of doing so. It will always be an election winner to run against such a position by simply saying "We will never touch it."
It's an inflexible, unwise arrangement that's only sustainable assuming ideal conditions.
