These reports feel useful but in practice they can't really be used for purchasing choices. By the time you have an idea if a model is a problem its already obsolete and replaced in the market anyway. Most drives wont make it to 10 years and there is an early failure spike as well. Some models are bad, some are great and manufacturer doesn't seem to be the key component nor are the major technical advancements.
