… and that will be the indicator to watch. Otherwise, economic signals from the Russian people make central bank measures look Soviet, so there’s necessarily the question of collapse. But the average Russian appears willing to endure another 1998—-projecting that Putin will outlive the economy. The key will be: can Putin use his advantage with the people who control Trump to keep wild protectionist policies from depressing Asian demand for Russian oil?
Not even Oligarchs. Look at what is happening with Wild Berries. Russia is falling apart and dying and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It was never based on any kind of law and a mafia state. I predict it will be a repeat of 1998 where everyone will lose everything, savings, pensions, investments, etc. Afghanistan ushered in the fall of the USSR, Chechnya ushered in bankruptcy in 98 and the War they started in Ukraine will destroy the country entirely.
What a great time to be alive to watch an Empire of Evil and Murder destroyed.
I was going to say the combination of huge oil and gas resources combined with low debt makes it hard for it to be doomed. I mean the war is expensive and they may have to cut back but that doesn't really count as doomed.
I was wondering what about that comment offended you that much to assume OP is "nazi russophobe".
The only thing i could think of that might be much more offensive than i interpret it, would be the "genetically preconditioned". To me, the "almost" made it seem like a figure of speech, an obvious exaggeration. Not that OP actually thinks that there is something up with the genom.
But considering the bad things people say about russian people, and how it seems to have become totally acceptable for many to discriminate based on nationality, i can see how either i, as a non-russian person, might not be sensitive enough for the wording here, or, how russians are extra sensitive.
In case my comment seems provocative, it is not meant like that at all. I want to learn about your honest perspective.
My interpretation of 'almost' is quite different from yours. To me it sounds like "Russians are genetically preconditioned, but I didn't say that". Of course he did. Try replacing Russians with Afro-Americans or Jews and see if it sounds okay to you.
As for how a Russian sees it, remember that 85 years ago Germans decided that we are racially inferior and they need our living space[0][1]. 26 million of Soviet citizens died as the result[2]. Try comparing that number with the number of deaths in any present day war. Personally, my grandmother survived genocidal siege of Leningrad[3], where a million of civilians starved to death or died during evacuation, and another relative survived in a Nazi death camp.[4]
That should explain the 'nazi' part of my comment.
As for 'russophobe', that comes from the rest of his comment. It is factually incorrect and disparaging to Russians. I can unpack that if it's needed.
Here is a fun bit: note the use of the same word 'almost' to downplay Russian revolutions of 1905 and 1917 along with rebellions in previous centuries.
