This might solve a problem I have! Whenever I use Google Takeout, it generates a new copy of a photo in Google Photos for every album that it's in, which means it takes up significantly more space than it should!
I've used fdupes to calculate just how much duplication is happening, and apparently out of 650+ gigabytes of photos, fully 250 gigabytes are duplicates.
jdupes is quite powerful and allows you to create different types of links and even more.
i used it for creating hardlinks, since this was the most efficient for my use case.
from what i read, there is currently also a rewrite of jdupes in progress, which will introduce significant performance improvements... you can see a post about it here:
