Very similar lawlessness here in Canada, with the tax agency making a secret settlement with KPMG for tax evasion (https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/cra-kmpg-settlement-taxes-1...), the Prime Minister firing the Minister of Justice for continuing to investigate a "state champion" corporation despite being told to stop (SNC Lavalin), and a grocery cartel escaping any prosecution for price-fixing, wage-fixing and wont-compete agreements. "Rule of Law" is a neat just-so story we tell ourselves.
