Ask HN: What are you building with the new OpenAI image-gen API?

The quality is very good, it gets most of the details right. But the colours are always way too sepia toned, often so yellow that you can't get them out without a lot of effort. I'm using Imagen 3 for my game instead (I need hundreds of small unit icons in faux 3D style) as part of an automated workflow that cuts out the backgrounds, resizes, names the file correctly, adds certain colour adjustments and elements to the portrait. It makes more mistakes than gpt-image but I just have it set up to regenerate or touch each one up manually.

Would love to follow along on the development of your game, if possible!

It’s called Fall of an Empire, if I can I’d do a piece about how the whole generation process works

Not just OpenAI's image gen, but I've been building this little RTS game almost entirely with AI, really just doing the coding myself and a whole lot of schlep work to get generated assets usable.

I’m seeing a lot of practical use like designers use it for fast mockups and ads, and educators for visual explainers. Some e-commerce sites even show products in real-life settings.

Nothing, it isn't novel.

Your implementation could be novel.
