The hype industry around AI is making too much money for governments to do anything about it that's actually needed.


America is in love with privatized surveillance, it helps get around that pesky Constitution that prohibits unwarranted search and seizure.

"Wipeth thine ass with what is written" should be engraved above the doorway of the National Constitution Center.


Especially in the US right now where they are doing whatever it takes to be #1 in ~anything, ethical or not. It’s pure bragging rights and power, anything goes - profit is just the byproduct.

Most of my close friends are non-technical and expect me to be a cheerleader fir USA AI efforts. They were surprised when I started mentioning the recent Stanford study that 80% of US startups are using Chinese models. I would like us to win but we seem too hype focused and not engineering and practical applications focused.


First they came for climate science, but I said nothing because I was not a climate scientist.

Then they came for medical science, but I said nothing because I was not a doctor.

Then they came for specialists and subject matter experts, and I said nothing because I was an influencer and wanted the management position.

Don't be hesitant to suggest that YC loves too funding questionable ideas all the time.
