Yes. And not only for responding to a page, but also for being stand by outside working hours.

Good and all until you need to debug a weird behavior in the CI platform.

You don’t need ci as a solo developer. A few bash scripts and a docker container will suffice.

And not just performance, also costs related to scalability

That IS the central issue though, processes, techniques, and so on are not a THING until they are. And something has to change for that to happen.

Until the AWS credit card gives up.

Is twitter completely on AWS?

Some of these in action from Michael Fisher's "When Phones Were Fun" playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOZi-7V11k8&list=PLwd8abTO4v...

Any additional insights or information on how latencies relate to number of connections?

This is more dependent on parallelism of queries rather than parallelism of connections. Having a ton of relatively idle connections won't increase the query latency.

For the related topic, in https://planetscale.com/blog/one-million-queries-per-second-... we touched on saturating shards through increased parallelism resulting in latency, and then also being an indication of needing to scale more horizontally.

I thought this was just a PoC

And that makes it `sad`

Thinking that social issues can't and should not shape technical discussions, even more when talking about one of the most important technological platforms for society is rather limited and short sighted.
